DAY6 is a South Korean boy band formed by JYP Entertainment in 2015. The band was originally composed of six members – Jae, Sungjin, Young K, Wonpil, Dowoon, and Junhyeok. They are currently promoting as a five-member group after the departure of Junhyeok in February 2016. The band officially debuted with their first mini-album, The Day, on September 7, 2015.
Born Park Sung Jin on January 16, 1993, he is the leader, main vocalist, and rhythmic guitarist of the band Day6 signed under JYP Entertainment. He is better known by his stage name, Sungjin.
Sungjin was born in Busan, South Korea before his family moved to Seoul where he grew up with his parents and older sister.
He attended Kyungnam High School and Seoul National University of Arts.
In the group, Sungjin is known as the most athletic and the one who love games the most. His groupmate Jae calls him “Bob” because he says Sungjin looks like the character “Bob the Builder”. Young K, meanwhile, gave him the nickname “Mosquito Headhunter” because he hates mosquitoes and kills them whenever he sees them.
Sungjin names his musical instruments. His acoustic guitar is called Atom, while his electric guitars are named baba and Baron.
He used to share a room with Wonpil in their old dormitory.
Sungjin appeared on the talent show search SBS Star King in 2009 alongside would-be B1A4 member Sandeul. But it wasn’t until 2010 that he got casted by JYP Entertainment when he won the 8th Chinchin Music Festival Grand Prix while he was in high school. In the same year, he also won the JYP Vocal Audition where his eventual groupmate Wonpil was also a participant.
He went on to train with the agency and was among the original members of the band 5LIVE where he played the cajón and djembe. The group had its soft promotions in 2014 before being renamed as Day6. During the reorganization, Sungjin also changed his instrument to guitar. They officially debuted in September 7, 2015 with their first mini album The Day.
Sungjin is credited for writing a lot of Day6’s songs. He also co-composed the song “Stuck on You” for the group Up10tion alongside Daniel Kim and bandmates Wonpil and Young K.
He once joined the television program “Hidden Singer” where he competed against the founder of his agency, Park Jin Young. He was eliminated, however, in the third round due to lack of votes. He also appeared on Weekly Idol as a “masked idol”.
Born Kang Young-hyun, he is most popularly known by his stage name Young K. He is a musician, singer, songwriter, and rapper best known as the bassist, vocalist, and rapper of South Korean rock band Day6.
Young K was born on December 19, 1993 in Ilsan, South Korea. He moved to Toronto, Canada to attend high school at York Mills Collegiate Institute, during which he went by his English name, Brian Kang.
On October 5, 2017, he received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Dongguk University.
During his time in high school, Young K pursued music and was part of a three-member band called “3rd Degree”. They performed at various locations in Toronto and put up videos on YouTube, including some original songs he composed.
In 2010, he and his bandmate, Don Lee, were contacted by JYP Entertainment for an audition and were both accepted as trainees. Lee, however, left JYP to pursue medical studies, while Young K went on to appear in the fourth episode of the show WIN: Who is Next? as a part of JYP’s rapping team with GOT7’s Mark Tuan and Jackson Wang. They went up against the combined rapping teams of Team and Team B, where he became known for the verse, “YG, get an attitude!” Young K also became part of JYP’s vocalist team together with eventual Day6 bandmates Junhyeok, Jae, Sungjin, and Wonpil.
In 2014, Young K was selected as a member of the five-member rock band 5Live under JYP Entertainment, but their debut was cancelled. The band was then reformed as Day6 after the addition of drummer Dowoon a year later, officially debuting on September 7, 2015 with the release of the extended play (EP) The Day.
Young K was credited with a lot of the songwriting in the band’s discography. In 2019, he composed and contributed lyrics to a track for the solo debut of B.A.P’s Youngjae, called “Hope”. He has also previously featured as a rapper in various labelmates’ singles such as Baek A-yeon’s “Shouldn’t Have” and Park Ji-min’s “Young” that were both released in 2015.
Young K also ventured into acting with cameo roles in both seasons of KBS’ Dream High’s in 2011 and 2012, as well as Naver TV Cast’s web series, Touching You, in 2016.
During middle school, his dream wasn’t to be a singer, but a basketball player.
He began his career in 2010 under the name Brian Kang as a member of a musical trio in Toronto, Canada.
Young K was Scouted by JYPE with his band member Don Lee from 3rd Degree in Toronto to come to audition for JYPE.
He was a member of the original formation of Day6 known as 5LIVE.

Their group won 1st place in a Math Dance Competition (which was held in Canada, and their group consists of his friends in Canada).
Born Kim Won Pil on April 28, 1994, he is the lead vocalist, keyboardist, and synthesizer for Day6. His better known by his stage name, Wonpil.
Wonpil was born and raised in Incheon, South Korea along his older sister. He attended Jinsan Elementary and Middle School where he earned the nickname “Pencil”. He then went to Incheon Science High School and the Model Department of Daekyeung University.
According to his bandmates, Wonpil has a 4D personality. His loves collecting action figures and he is known in the group as the one who always asks weird questions, especially to Sungjin, such as, “Are you a bear?”
He used to share a room with Sungjin in their old dormitory but now has a room of his own in their new place.
Since he was young, Wonpil has always wanted to be part of JYP Entertainment. He got casted by the agency in 2010 during an audition.
Wonpil first trained as a dancer in JYPE and was supposed to debut with Day6 bandmate Young K in a dance group.
He then became part of the band 5LIVE as one of the original members. The band had its soft promotions in 2014 but was renamed as Day6 after fans compared them to American band Maroon5. He officially debuted as one of the band’s vocalists on September 7, 2015 with the release of their mini album The Day.
Wonpil shares secondary vocalist duties with Young K for the band and is also credited for writing some of their songs. He also co-composed the song “Stuck on You” for the group UP10TION alongside Daniel Kim and bandmates Sungjin and Young K.
When Junhyeok left Day6, Wonpil took over the keyboardist position.
Park Jae-hyung, most popularly known by his stage name, Jae, is a Korean-American musician, singer, songwriter, rapper, and composer. He is the vocalist and electric guitarist of South Korean rock band, Day6. Prior to joining the group, he gained attention as one of the six finalists on the first season reality singing competition K-pop Star.
Early life and pre-Day6 career
Born in Argentina on September 15, 1992, Jae moved with his family to South Korea when he was five years old. They lived there for two years before moving to Cerritos, California where graduated from Cerritos High School. He later attended California State University, Long Beach where he studied political science until he passed the preliminary auditions for K-pop Star and moved back to South Korea.
He made it as one of the six finalists in the show before getting eliminated on April 1, 2012. Jae later signed an exclusive contract with JYP Entertainment along with fellow contestants Baek A-yeon and eventual winner, Park Ji-min.
Jae officially debuted on September 7, 2018 as a vocalist and electric guitarist for JYP’s first rock band, Day6. The band debuted with their first extended play (EP), The Day.
In March 2016, they released their second EP, Daydream, for which Jae participated in the creation of two tracks – “Blood” and “First Time”.
On June 28, 2016, he became an MC of Arirang’s After School Club (ASC), alongside labelmate Park Ji-min and former U-KISS member Kevin Woo. He officially graduated as an ASC MC on July 17, 2018.
Jae also took part on Arirang Radio’s Monday Music Access with singer Bernard Park as a guest DJ. His last appearance on the show was on April 30, 2018.
Born Yoon Do Woon on August 25, 1995, he is the drummer and maknae (youngest) in JYP Entertainment’s pop-alternative-rock band, Day6. He is better known by his stage name, Dowoon.
Dowoon was born in Busan, South Korea and was raised by his parents with his older sister. He attended Changwon Sangnam Middle School, Peniel High School of the Arts, and the Department of Applied Music at Busan Arts College.
He learned to play drums when he was 16 and is currently receiving vocal training while also learning English with the help of his bandmate Jae.
Being the youngest in the group, the other members find him the cutest. He used to share a room with Young K in their old dormitory and was revealed to often get mad when Wonpil wants to share a bed with him.
Dowoon became part of JYP Entertainment after the agency’s open auditions to form a band. He originally passed the auditions to become part of 5LIVE, which was the group that JYPE was forming at the time but had to withdraw due to personal circumstances. He later auditioned again and was the last member to join the Day6 after less than a year of training.
When Dowoon joined the band in 2015, it changed its name from 5LIVE to Day6 after being compared to American band Maroon5.
He officially debuted with Day6 on September 7, 2015 with the release of their first mini album The Day.
2014 to 2016: DAY6 Formation and official debut
JYP Entertainment initially announced their plans to debut a five-member band called 5LIVE, composed of members Sungjin, Jae, Young K, Junhyeok, and Wonpil. The group began promotions in 2014 with an appearance on the fourth episode of Mnet’s reality survival program Who Is Next: Win where trainees from JYP Entertainment and YG Entertainment went up against each other.
Following their participation in Who Is Next: Win, the group released a song titled “Lovely Girl” as part of the original soundtrack of the television series Bel Ami.
In 2015, drummer Dowoon was added into the lineup and the band was renamed DAY6. DAY6 released their debut Ep, The Day, on September 7, 2015, featuring the lead single “Congratulations”.
On February 27 of the following year, their agency announced that member Junhyeok has decided to leave the band due to personal reasons and terminated the contract with the company. After Junhyeok’s departure, the group kept their name and remained as a five-member band.
On March 30, 2016, they released their second EP, Daydream, with the title track “Letting Go”. The next day, they made their official stage debut on Mnet’s M! Countdown, six months after their initial debut.
2017: Every DAY6
On December 29, 2016, DAY6 announced their monthly project for the year 2017, called Every DAY6. With the project, the band will be releasing two songs on the sixth day of every month. Aside from this, they are also set to have concerts before the release of the songs.
On January 6, 2017, the group released their first monthly single, “I Wait,” and the sidetrack “Goodbye Winter”. It was followed by their second monthly single, “You Were Beautiful” and “My Day” on February 6.
The third monthly release featuring the lead single “How Can I Say” and the sidetrack “I Would” was released on March 6. DAY6 held promotions on Mnet’s M! Countdown for their March release. This was then followed by the release of their fourth monthly single which features the songs “I’m Serious” and “Say Wow”.
On May 6, they released their fifth monthly single consisting of the lead single “Dance Dance” and the sidetrack “Man in a Movie”.
In June 2017, in the middle of their EVERY DAY6 project, the band released their first full-length album, Sunrise. The album contains a total of 14 tracks including the releases from January to May, as well as two new tracks: “I Smile” as the lead single, “Lean On Me,” the rebooted version of “Letting Go,” and the final version of “Congratulations.” On the same day, they announced the official name of their fan club – “My Day”.
For the month of July, DAY6 released the songs “Hi Hello” and “Be Lazy,” while their August release consists of “What Can I Do” and “Whatever!” Their September single features the songs “I Loved You” and “I’ll Remember”.
