MBC announces details for ‘2018 Idols Star Athletic Championships’
After months of discussions, postponements, and cancellations, MBC has finally revealed details on the much-awaited 2018 Idol Star Athletic Championships.
Idol Star Athletic Championships, or fondly called ISAC, is one of the few events where members of various idol groups from different entertainment agencies get to interact with one another and compete in various sporting activities.
ISAC is often aired during the Chuseok festival, but for this year’s edition, the event will be shown during the Lunar New Year holiday. Recording is scheduled on January 15 at the Goyang Gymnasium.
Among the idol groups that have so far confirmed their participation are EXO, Wanna One, TWICE, and Red Velvet. The sporting event will be hosted by veteran host Jun Hyun Moo, Super Junior’s Leeteuk, and Apink’s Bomi.
MBC has previously announced that they will be removing futsal and basketball from the lineup of sports to prevent potential injuries on the idols. Instead, this year’s competition will include bowling, archery, rhythmic gymnastics, and aerobics.
EXO members and Wanna One’s Lai Guan Lin and Bae Jin Young are reported to be participating in the bowling tournament, which will be hosted by special MCs Sunggyu of INFINITE and Hani of EXID. Cosmic Girls’ Cheng Xiao will be competing in rhythmic gymnastics again, but not against Mina of TWICE as JYP Entertainment has announced she will not be participating this year.
ISAC’s production staff also said that they will be having a bigger medical team at the ready for emergencies.
