SHINee members to become lead mourners in Jonghyun’s funeral ceremony
In the wake of Jonghyun’s sudden passing, the four remaining members of SHINee will take on the role of a “sang joo” or chief mourner in their deceased member’s funeral ceremony.
The role is traditionally assigned to the closest male relative of the deceased, but since the singer doesn’t have any male siblings, his bandmates have stepped up to preside over the memorial services.
On December 19, the names of Onew (Lee Jin Ki), Key (Kim Ki Bum), Minho (Choi Min Ho), and Taemin (Lee Tae Min) have been listed next to Jonghyun’s mother and sister at the memorial service.
The five artists have been together for more than 10 years since they began as trainees at SM Entertainment.
His memorial is being held at Seoul Asan Medical Center for family, friends, and colleagues. A separate public memorial was also organized by SM Entertainment to allow fans to pay their final respects to the idol.
Jonghyun was found unconscious yesterday in an apartment in Cheongdam-dong in Gangnamn, Seoul. Police confirmed his death at around 6 PM KST.
Our deepest condolences to Jonghyun’s family and friends.
