TXT, which stands for Tomorrow X Together, is a five-member boy band formed by Big Hit Entertainment. The group consists of Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Huening Kai. They made their official debut on March 4, 2019, with the release of their first extended play (EP), The Dream Chapter: Star.
As early as 2017, there have been reports on Big Hit Entertainment forming its second boy group following the global success of BTS. But it wasn’t until November 2018 that the company officially revealed their plans to debut a new boy band in early 2019. Shortly after this confirmation, it was announced that the group will consist of five members and are slated to officially debut in March 2019.
What does TXT stand for? Together X Tomorrow
On January 10, 2019, Big Hit Entertainment officially revealed “TXT’ through a teaser posted on the group’s website. Over the next 10 days, “introduction films” for each of the members were released on YouTube. It was followed by the announcement of the group’s final lineup comprised of Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Huening Kai. After the release of the members’ introduction films, a set of “questioning films” was released in the last week of January.
TXT Official Debut
It was announced on February 7 that the group will make their official debut on March 4. A debut broadcast was aired on Mnet and the title of TXT’s debut EP was announced.
On March 5, they held a debut showcase at the Yes24 Live Hall. Following the release of their debut EP, The Dream Chapter: Star, the music video for the group’s debut single, “Crown,” broke the record for the most viewed K-pop debut music video within 24 hours for a boy group.
The Dream Chapter: Star features a total of five tracks, including the title track, “Crown,” which was produced by resident Big Hit Entertainment producer, Slow Rabbit.
A week after the official release of their album, TXT debuted at number 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists, World Albums, and World Digital Song Sales charts. They also landed at number 140 on the Billboard 200 chart for the first time, making them the fastest K-pop group to appear in the charts and scoring the highest-charting debut album by any male K-pop group.
On March 12, TXT bagged their first music show win on The Show.
