MXM Pre-debut

Im Young Min and Kim Dong Hyun met as trainees under the agency Brand New Music. The two, along with fellow trainees in the agency – Lee Dae Hwi and Park Woo Jin – represented the label in Mnet’s survival reality show Produce 101 Season 2. Young Min finished at 15th place in the program, while Dong Hyun was eliminated before the finale.

On July 12, it was announced that the two would debut as a project unit – MXM – after having signed exclusive contracts with Brand New Music before participating on Produce 101 and becoming members of Brand New Boys.

MXM stands for “Mix & Match” and More x More”. The former meaning refers to the pair’s compatibility as a group despite having contrasting qualities, while the latter refers to their determination to develop as a duo.

On July 27, they released a two-track promotional singled, titled “Good Day”. The two also wrote the lyrics to the single’s second track, “I Just Do,” as well as co-arranging and co-producing the song with Brand New Music producer, Kiggen.

2017 to present: Official debut, Unmix and Match Up

MXM officially debuted on September 6, 2017 with the release of their EP, entitled Unmix. The EP features a total of seven tracks, including the previously released singles “Good Day” and “I Just Do”. The album’s lead single, “I’m the One,” meanwhile, was written and produced by Brand New Music producers 9999 and Esbee.

On September 22, the duo participated in Brand New Music’s annual concert, “Brand New World Seoul,” at the Jangchung Arena in Seoul.

MXM released their second EP, Match Up, on January 10, 2018. The EP contains a total of six tracks, including the lead single “Diamond Girl”.

On March 6, the pair announced the release of a double single, Rematch, accompanied with a music video for the song “Gone Cold,” which was produced by Primeboi. For the second single from Rematch, MXM worked 999 and Esbee once again on the song “Love Me Now”.

Fun Fact: The Maknae is the youngest member of the band.
